Welcome to my collection of contemporary ceramic art!
I developed an interest in ceramic art after seeing Rachel Kneebone's incredible work “399 days” in the V&A in 2019, and started my collection after stumbling across “White Flower Sprouting” by Shigeyuki Tamba on a trip to Japan.
My collection focuses on sculptural as opposed to functional pieces, and on form over colour or texture. I am drawn to complexity, preferably deliberately designed instead of naturally occurring. The feeling of staring at a piece, looking at individual sections, but not being able to hold the whole in my mind's eye is deeply meditative to me. Some of my favourite pieces consist of small, repeated elements that are assembled into larger patterns (somewhat reminiscent of minimalist music).
I enjoy the wide variety of styles and methods used in contemporary ceramic art. Having each artist's works be distinctive and instantly recognisable makes it very rewarding to add a new artist to the collection.
None of the above are hard rules, in the end I collect what speaks to me in the moment.
